Southern Skywatch September, 2016 edition is now out!
The September edition of Southern Skywatch is up.
This month starts all five bright planets in the evening sky (although Mercury and Jupiter soon disappear into the twilight) and still more nice planetary action. There is a penumbral eclipse of the Moon on the 17th.
Venus, Mercury, Jupiter form a a triangle low on the horizon. Mars, Antares and Saturn form a triangle in the evening skies.
Jupiter is below the thin crescent Moon on the 3rd.
Mars the Moon, Antares and Saturn form a diamond in the sky on the 9th. Mars has numerous encounters with clusters and nebula during the month.
Saturn has a close encounter with the Moon on the 8th.
Venus climbs higher the evening twilight and is extremely close to Spica on the 28th.
Mercury, forms a triangle with Venus and Jupiter, but is difficult to see after the first week, then is too close to the Sun by mid moth to see.
